About the Band

“Oregon’s Own” 234th Army Band has served the State of Oregon and the Nation for more than a century. Organized and federally recognized on June 20, 1919 as the Band Section, Service Company, 162d Infantry Regiment, the unit later served in the South Pacific during World War II, earning campaign participation credit for Luzon, New Guinea, and the Southern Philippines, as well as the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. The Band was redesignated as the 234th Army Band on May 17, 1947.

Today, the 234th Army Band carries on the long tradition of American military music by providing support to military ceremonies, official events, public concerts, community celebrations, and other missions throughout Oregon and beyond. The Band performs in a variety of configurations, from full concert and ceremonial ensembles to smaller Musical Performance Teams capable of supporting a wide range of audiences and events.

Members of the 234th have also supported humanitarian and domestic-response missions, including Hurricane Katrina relief, wildfire response, COVID-19 hospital augmentation, while members of the unit have served on deployments to locations including Kosovo, the Horn of Africa, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Whether performing for Soldiers, supporting state and community events, or representing the Oregon Army National Guard abroad, the 234th Army Band remains truly “Oregon’s Own.”
