Yes; non-prior-service members must will attend 10 weeks of basic training to learn basic Soldier skills, as well as 10 weeks of AIT - Advanced Initial Training - at the Army School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia. Contact the Band for more information.
Yes, all 234th Army Band members are provided with professional quality musical instruments.
The Army Musical Proficiency Assessment (AMPA) will help determine your eligibility for the Army Band program. The audition consists of solo excerpts of varying style as well as quickly-prepared music. More information can be found here.
Yes, interested musicians are welcome to attend one of our drills to sit in on rehearsals, meet the band, and get a feel for what it's like to be in the 234th Army Band. There's no obligation to join. Contact the Band staff to schedule a visit.
As members of the National Guard, Band members drill one weekend per month and two weeks in the summer.
The 234th Army Band performs throughout the State of Oregon at military and civilian ceremonies, parades, and public concerts. If you're organizing a civic event, would like to request a clinic, or are interested in the band coming to play in your community, no matter how small, we'd love you to reach out to us. Please keep in mind, public performances must be free of charge and open to the public.
